Question 1

What is DevOps, in your own words?

Accepted Answer

DevOps is a way of working where development and operations share responsibility for building, releasing and running software. Instead of throwing code over a wall, the same team owns it end to end. It is supported by practices like automation, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and monitoring, with the goal of releasing small changes quickly and safely, and learning fast from what happens in production.

Question 2

What does a DevOps engineer do day to day?

Accepted Answer

A DevOps engineer builds and looks after the systems that let developers ship safely: CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure written as code, container platforms like Kubernetes, and monitoring and alerts. Day to day that means automating manual work, helping teams deploy, improving reliability and cost, handling incidents and making the platform easier for developers to use.

Question 3

Tell me about a DevOps project you have built.

Accepted Answer

Pick one project and tell it as a story: the goal, what you built, the tools and why you chose them, a problem you hit and how you solved it, and the result. For example: 'I built a pipeline with GitHub Actions that tests a Node.js app, builds a Docker image, pushes it to a registry and deploys it to Kubernetes with Helm. My first deploys failed because the readiness probe was wrong, so I learned to read the pod events. Now every push to main deploys in about 4 minutes.'

Question 4

Why do you want to work in DevOps?

Accepted Answer

Give a real, personal reason and connect it to the job. For example: 'I enjoy automating things and solving problems across the whole system, not only one part. When I built my first CI/CD pipeline and saw a change go live by itself in minutes, I knew this is what I want to do. I like that DevOps keeps changing, so I keep learning, and that my work helps the whole team release faster.'

Question 5

What are the DORA metrics?

Accepted Answer

DORA metrics measure how well a team delivers software. Deployment frequency is how often you release. Lead time for changes is how long from commit to production. Change failure rate is the percentage of releases that cause a problem. Time to restore service is how fast you recover from a failure. Good teams release often and quickly while keeping failures low and recovery fast.
